16 May 2014

An endangered southern three-banded armadillo has been born at Busch Gardens Tampa in Florida.

The southern three banded armadillos are the only armadillos that can roll themselves into a ball.

This is the second baby born to mother 'Zowie' and father 'Ollie' but its sex is not yet determined. The baby was able to walk and roll into a ball within moments of its birth. It currently weighs 118 grams – around the same weight as the average mobile phone.

Busch Gardens Tampa in Florida is home to more than 12,000 animals – including 200 endangered species.
